Upon entering the chat you will find DSO_$username_RandomNumber is you. This is because you have yet to register a nickname.

Type

 /nick DSO_<username>

You should see that the name has not yet been registered

Type

 /msg nickserv register <your-password>

It is a good idea to register the DSO_<username> to use for your primary nick

Now, let's set your email.

Type

/msg nickserv set hide email on

Then

 /msg nickserv set email <your-email-address>

Now, you can create variations of your username to be used for a nick

Type

 /nick <username>

Hopefully, your <username> nick is not registered

Providing that it is not

 /msg nickserv register <your-password>

NOW, as with any nick you register, you set it to a primary nick Type

 /msg nickserv link <primary-nick> <your-password>

For chat, nicks are expired after 60 days without use.

Nicks which are at least two weeks old and which were last used less than two hours after their creation are also considered to be expired.
